THE WIRES ARE ABLAZE with a coincidence of timing in President Obama’s appointing a “border czar” and the discovery of massive weaponry in the hands of a Mexicana who was photographed by AP cameras looking extremely well-stocked and defiant.
LA SANTA MUERTE is threatening Jesus Christ. Those who champion Mister Christ are lashing back. Or perhaps we might say the Mexican Oligarchy is acting like terrorists and destroying symbols that are dear to groups of people who frustrate them. However you word it, the People are under seige on more than one front.
THE WAR ON DRUGS HAS RETURNED even though under increased militarization, drug production actually goes up, as does the body count, while the seizure of drugs decreases. All the facts in hand show, inarguably, that the Drug War model is a failed method of dealing with immigration—even though President Obama seems intent to resurrect it.
WE CAN IGNORE MEXICO’S STRUGGLE for a tiny bit longer, maybe. But the truth is, all these injustices we rail against are connected. No border can separate them. Once we join hands in fighting the crooked elites who trick and rule and exploit us, they have no hope of winning.
CHANGE is coming for the world. Neoliberalism is crashing, Free Market Philosophies are crashing, Wall Street is crashing: All the mechanisms in place that are best at making the rich richer and the powerful more powerful and the poor poorer are collapsing. Posturing Palin is on TV telling the commoners they need to support the party of elitism, and Evo Morales is doing just the opposite.
