On The Eve of The Dawn of a Brand New Day

MY HOPE IS THAT WE CARRY THIS FORWARD. This energy now rising. That we all carry on with this decision to work for a new day and a new way of seeing. A way out of the hate and the fear and the small-minded paradigms that keep us running in circles as we try to spiral up to the Top of the Shining Heap and step on other hands to get there. That we continue to open our minds and our hearts and become this change we want so much to believe in.

Who, the Real Conquerors?

WHO ARE THE REAL CONQUERORS who think they are better than everyone, Mister Republican? Who are the real conquerors, dropping economic and actual bombs on those they feel are below them in station and worth? Who are the real conquerors, still whispering and hissing into the ears of those below them, still stirring up divisions to keep themselves at the business end of a yoke?

Grenades During El Grito

There are simple ways to end so many conflicts today. We could stop seeking punitive measures in addressing human and natural reaction to economic imbalance and hardship. We could change our fearful, reactive, greedy, other-ing philosophies. We could focus on helping, giving, healing, growing—not bombing, fearing, hoarding, killing. Sadly, though, the powers that be do not want such a world.

a september remembered

NEVER FORGET. This is what many people say about September 11th, 2001. I say it, too. Though I’m not sure I mean it in the same way. Herein is a tale, including diary entries made from NYC during the WTC explosions, of the changes that those horrifically violent and altogether terrifying events inspired in me. This is our modern-day Olympic Games Carnival settling down uneasily into a world where war and class divides are hurting so many.

To Split like a Seed and Become a New

SO HOW LONG our own bloody transition? And without a goal. And rife with lies. And the priests do not join with the people do not join with the warriors today. We are all at odds, enjoined by lies. And blood flows in many lands at the hands of our warriors—who know not even why or for what they fight. And we hide their rituals from the people. And replace them with lies.

The Dark Knight (on Terror)

The Dark Knight (on Terror)

“You think the city’s better now?” the Joker leers at the Law through a video screen. Matted hair, caked-up makeup and eyes wild and wide. “THIS IS HOW INSANE GOTHAM IS!” And he personifies the madness into which society is descending.

Madre’s Secretas

MEXICO IS ALWAYS UNEARTHING A NEW SECRET whether it is buried gods or buried ruins. That is because of how very old she is. She has many stories to tell. This time it is buried soldiers, ghosts from the USA’s invasion into México in the mid-1800s, still whispering today.

On Obama.

AND NOW IT’S ONLY FAIR to revisit the phenomenon (because I’ve long felt he is one) of Barack Obama and how I feel about his run. Now, I hardly think it matters in a larger sense. If Bill Richardson is not going to affect people’s feeling or voting too much with his endorsement, what the [...]
