The Sleeping Giant is Awake and Bleeding

DEAR MISTER PRESIDENT ELECT: You are too smart to pretend you don’t see all this. So I say if you do not act on it and soon, you are nodding along with this scourge that threatens both our peoples and the whole nation as a consequence. And I know I don’t need to be overly direct about this, but I will anyway:

On The Eve of The Dawn of a Brand New Day

MY HOPE IS THAT WE CARRY THIS FORWARD. This energy now rising. That we all carry on with this decision to work for a new day and a new way of seeing. A way out of the hate and the fear and the small-minded paradigms that keep us running in circles as we try to spiral up to the Top of the Shining Heap and step on other hands to get there. That we continue to open our minds and our hearts and become this change we want so much to believe in.

A Loathsome Day On Parade

MY HEART RACED faster and faster and when it was over I…I let the sadness wash through me as it had to for a few moments. The bold ignorance and hate and bigotry was…terrifying. And sad. If a leader cares about society, s/he does not brush by these ghosts casually, nor rouse them if at all possible.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month

IT IS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH and time to take a bit of time to focus on a struggle that is waged every day, in every city, in every town with very real consequences for our entire world, and yet is alloted hardly the finances and attention and energy that the battle requires. After all, helping the world become a place that loves mujeres as much as they provide love for our world is a lifelong job—and all of our jobs.

The Goodness in the World

I WANTED TO WRITE TODAY OF MARCELLA GRACE EILER’S LIFE and not of her death. I wanted to talk about how she was young, only 20 years old and already interested in serving as protection for indigenous rights; of how she was from Eugene, Oregon. I wanted to write about what she was doing in Oaxaca and what kinds of things she was interested in, like teaching dance.
