“OUR NATION is debating a crisis on par with that which gave birth to the Revolution of Independence, The Reformation wars and the Mexican Revolution. Just as was the case then, this is a long overarching crisis in our economy, politics and culture.”
WHERE LIES OUR TRUE FIGHT? With people of different skin tones? With people who use different word sounds to express their dreams, their pain, their hope, their hunger? Or with those who move hugely and cloaked over with flag and legal document, drawing blood worldwide?
THERE IS A LARGER PICTURE undeniably drawing itself in clotty bright blood across the imaginary maplines of this world. There is a cause and effect of which the US is ignorant, as is México, as is Canada. That is giving them the benefit of the doubt. One could assume far worse.
WHAT USGOV is now doing to México by way of NAFTA and the overwhelming of México’s market by US-subsidized Agribusiness it does directly in other nations through coups and forced legislation. The Empire, in yet another shape, sprawls and burps and bleeds and chews up humans as it moves into its final phases.
TODAY IS THE DAY of México’s midterm elections. While Felipe Calderón is not on the ballot, his policies are under scrutiny. Support for or against PAN, FeCal’s party, will be interpreted as approval or disapproval for his violence-heavy policies. Of course, that’s assuming the vote tallies are legit.
MEXICO WILL BREAK with much of its long-standing legal traditions, instead to institute a process that emulates US law in many positive ways.
LA SANTA MUERTE is threatening Jesus Christ. Those who champion Mister Christ are lashing back. Or perhaps we might say the Mexican Oligarchy is acting like terrorists and destroying symbols that are dear to groups of people who frustrate them. However you word it, the People are under seige on more than one front.
THE WAR ON DRUGS HAS RETURNED even though under increased militarization, drug production actually goes up, as does the body count, while the seizure of drugs decreases. All the facts in hand show, inarguably, that the Drug War model is a failed method of dealing with immigration—even though President Obama seems intent to resurrect it.
PRESIDENT OBAMA declares at a town hall meeting that it is in all our interests that the heads of Lou Dobbs’, Tom Tancredo, Bill O’Reilly explode in a salsa-fantastic burst of incoherence. Which will happen as soon as they watch this video.
WE CAN IGNORE MEXICO’S STRUGGLE for a tiny bit longer, maybe. But the truth is, all these injustices we rail against are connected. No border can separate them. Once we join hands in fighting the crooked elites who trick and rule and exploit us, they have no hope of winning.
THESE HIERARCHIES ARE SO IMPORTANT. It’s always about who you can bring in to do the work or who you gonna round up to take away from the table. Later when you have a booming economic engine of might, claim America was assembled in America and entirely by white pioneers who had a dream and simply worked hard to make it happen. That way, when things falter, you know who to blame. Others.
YOU CAN LAY AN ENTIRE TREE down on top of one tiny bubble of air in a lake and you can then drop a mountain on top of that tree, but sooner or later, that one tiny air bubble will rise to the surface of the water. So too, behaves Truth.
The elites in so many nations lie and steal and cheat their way into power. And then once there, they do nothing to alleviate the imbalances and injustices that drive so many less-empowered humans to find other ways to support themselves or find tenable ways and places to live.
There are simple ways to end so many conflicts today. We could stop seeking punitive measures in addressing human and natural reaction to economic imbalance and hardship. We could change our fearful, reactive, greedy, other-ing philosophies. We could focus on helping, giving, healing, growing—not bombing, fearing, hoarding, killing. Sadly, though, the powers that be do not want such a world.
PART OF WHAT makes me feel gross inside this hoopla, this ultra hyper TV extravaganza-palooza that both parties are telegasming 24-7 is ICE, cracking down with serious force on gente while the popcorn is being buttered and the lights being dimmed.
