And We Grow Fat Upon The Fruits of Their Labor

And We Grow Fat Upon The Fruits of Their Labor

THERE IS A HIDDEN COST to our delicious food. There is a hidden cost to Capitalism. There are vulnerable people suffering, and for their trouble, they are demonized.

THE CRIME: Sleeping While Chinese

THE CRIME: Sleeping While Chinese

IF THE POLICE are out to alienate themselves entirely from the people of the US, they should continue Tasering people in a sadistic manner.

CNN Loves Lou Dobbs’ Leprous Lies More Than It Values Latino Lives

CNN Loves Lou Dobbs’ Leprous Lies More Than It Values Latino Lives

Let’s visit CNN, where talking about the “diverse experiences and challenging issues facing Latinos” today is about everything Latino except the very most pressing issues, such as the climate of hate that is giving white supremacists a wink and a nod as they bring violence upon us.

In Title, In Deed

WHY DO US HISTORY BOOKS and mainstream culture revere the pioneers and the US settlers in our lore? Why do the amoral and ruthless GOP always gain ground? I would whisper to you that the reason is the same reason that men’s violence can blossom in our culture, often unimpeded.

New Berkeley Law Study Finds Enforcement of Immigration Laws Led to Racial Profiling

EVERY DAY IT BECOMES CLEARER that the current form of “Enforcement First” immigration tactics boil down to a War on Latinos with all the measures in place lending themselves enabling, requiring, or encouraging the illegal practice of racial profiling. The data and evidence grows, and here is another addition.

MCSO Police: “I Am Up Here!!! You Are Down There!!!”

JOE ARPAIO’S RENEGADE LAW OUTFIT thinks itself on a mission to rid the state of Latinos. Every day the case grows stronger that law means nothing to these cops and that the community is under siege. Here are a couple videos that demonstrate them violating a friend’s civil rights.

39th Anniversary of Chicano Moratorium, August 29, 1970

UN DIA ESPECIAL, a very special day! A day to commemorate la comunidad, people power, and El Chicano Movimiento—which surely has grown out of its 60s roots but lives on in this blog, in this bloguero, in my many compas, in all the hearts that beat and the brass that sounds and the streets that still fill with feet from Chi-town to Michoacán!

Janet Napolitano Likes to Play Pretend

LIKE A FAVORITE CHESS GAME, the White House plays with its constituency, with it’s Latin@ constituency, with its pro-migrant constituency. Their actions show not a preference for humanitarian or People-centric legislation, but one for prison profits.

The Melting Pot, Chapter 2009

THE CULTURAL DEMOGRAPHICS OF THE NATION ARE CHANGING. Black President, Hispanic Supreme Court Justices, Black Attorney Generals, and lest we forget, Kumar in the White House. This is throwing some people off-stride and just a bit out of their minds.

The Detention Industry is Cruel and Un-American

THE INSIDIOUS AND DEPRAVED AND VAMPIRIC NATURE of the detention industry is a topic I cover here regularly. Latino convicts are now the largest ethnic population in the federal prison system, and all due to the criminalization of immigration that Bush brought upon us and that Obama, so far, has yet to dismantle or substantially reshape.

The Times, They Be Cambiando

SO YESTERDAY AND TODAY have been the SCOTUS hearings on Judge Sonia Sotomayor’s nomination to the Supreme Court. I have no doubt that she’ll shatter the small stereotype some of these ailing senators like Scat-mouth Sessions hold in their brittle minds, and it may hurt. I also have no doubt she will rock the process in general, and we shall see her on the Supreme Court before long.

Sunday Michael Music – Ben

CLOSING OUT OUR WEEKEND OF TRIBUTE to Michael Jackson, here’s one of possibly the best songs about friendship, or love, or both—that exists. A lot of that is performance. It’s written for a rat, but what’s new? The footage is great, too. An old grainy version of MJ as a kid, feels like a painting in motion.
