News With Nezua | All These Walls Will Fall
THE WORLD GROWS CHAOTIC, humankind too often not heeding lessons, and all around is the feeling we must do something about everything. Walls spring up, oil spills out, violence creeps in and how is an engaged activist to keep centered in the face of all of it?
Four steps to Remaining Chill, and if those don’t work, try sitcoms and liquor.
News With Nezua vids first appear Monday mornings at La Frontera Times. Wednesdays they show up at UMX, as well as in a dim setting at The XOLAGRAFIK Theater. YouTube version here.

Thank you for making this. It was a much needed breath of fresh air – I have been feeling dejected, hopeless and enraged the past few weeks. I try and fight the good fight with words but lately things have been overwhelming. For what’s it worth, thank you for the reminding me about taking a deep breath etc. Salud.
Beautiful! That really makes my day. I give that reminder every once in a while, as I remind myself. It’s easy to lean in and stop breathing, as we chip away at those things in our path. Keep on! Good to see you here.
Nez, thanks for this. I’ve been working on this very thing. Staying centered. Not burning out. Hope you are well and doing the same. Take your own advice. Peace!
Good to hear man. Thanks! Peace.
Stand in the place where you live!
Nez,
I’m right there with SJR & Glen. This could not have come at a better time for me. My mind has been in so many places lately that I have been stuck in the mud in every aspect of my life. In my desire to do something about everything I’ve ended up only doing nothing. Actually, worse than nothing.
From time to time I find myself so overwhelmed with the bad that’s already out there and my fears of an even worse future that I have trouble functioning. Yet time and time again, you have been there with exactly the right message to help me break out of the funk and remind me of all that is real and important.
The next time I’m having one of these intense periods of self reflection (or “injury to the soul,” as a friend once called it), today’s episode of News With Nezua will be the first place I go. Like a beam of sunlight breaking through a gray wall of clouds, this will remind me that if you look high enough, you can sometimes find a bright blue sky above all the dreariness down below.
And to show you (in more concrete terms) how your words do make a difference…this morning I was good for absolutely nothing. After watching your video (especially the “Wander. And Return” part), I took the first steps to set up a legal clinic for immigrants in my town, something I’ve thought about for a while but never did anything about.
Thank you for your compassion, wisdom, inspiration and humor. You are truly a gift.
Michael,
I feel you, man. Stuff gets thick out there. We gotta remember to take care of our peace of mind. It’s like the oxygen bag in the plane. Put it on yourself first. Or else you are gonna collapse before you can help anyone else.
It means a lot to me that you tell me all you did here. I feel so happy to be a part of that positive happening in your area. Wow! Thanks for sending the energy back. Let’s keep on with it!
Thanks so much for this! It’s nice that we can actually give ourselves permission to chill out and still consider ourselves freedom fighting revolutionaries!
I would love to post this at my blog with your permission.
Thank you Anna! I’d be honored.
Be well, amiga.
Gracias mi hermano!
You know, just when you want to hurl yourself onto the ground, cry and moan, and you (ok,i) begin feeling utterly useless, along comes someone (ok, you) who reminds us, me, us, that we (ya know, me and ya’ll) cannot do something about everything, or anything about some things… but, when it gets to where you (i) can’t bear to click around and feed my soul with all the sadness, you give us permission to relax, drink, and watch stupid shows.
thank you, Nezua, for reminding us that we are not alone in our struggles, even if some days the struggle just consists of a deep, unrelenting angst and the aversion to turning on the old laptop and finding out what’s happening out there today, again.
salud! tomorrow will probably be easier and better; if not, well, we still must pay our rent here, as Shirley Chishom said.
Well said, Nora. Thanks for being a part of the We out here. It means a lot to keep seein’ ya. Salúd!
Are you sure that’s enough steps?
Nope.
Yo hermano mio, your well produced video epistle found my noggin just at the right time.
Thank you, you do good work.
I have downloaded the video, will burn it to a CD and viewing it will become part of my daily reflection ritual. Hopefully, over whatever time period that it takes, your ‘ This too will pass. ‘, etc., etc. message will become more and more ingrained in the gray matter inside my noggin that is a twin to the ever increasing amount of gray follicles on the outside of my noggin.
¡ Paz y dignidad !
Hey! That’s fantastic to hear, hermano. Thanks for stopping by, my friend, and sharing your energy. See you around.
