THE PASSING OF ARIZONA’S SB 1070 stirs up an already simmering pot of cultural conflict, just as a steady beat of enforcement rhetoric and punitive fearful talk about Mexicans lends itself to increased tension and eventually, violence. Democratic politicians and advocacy groups don’t help matters, even as they pose as champions. It’s you and me and community. We simply cannot depend on anything or anyone else.

There shouldn’t be any cultural conflict. For those who seek the United States for a better way of life, then embrace it when you get here. Become American and Assimilate into being an American.
You are dead right on Democrats. Those rich people could care less about the U.S, its laws or you. All they want is to keep the free ride and great paying jobs. Even if they have to lie to you to get your vote.
I’m sorry you have such a limited understanding of the history of Arizona and the United States. As it is you seem to imagine that Patriots dragged the state of Arizona here, how? On their tea ships? In a “satchel” or something? Rolled up in a British cigarette? The United States’ “better way of life” as you put it, is built on the backs of Mexicans, among many others. (But that won’t cause any “cultural conflict,” eh?) Then it lays down borders as if holy writ. (Through invasion and lies and force.) Then it enforces laws as if gospel. Then her agents throw tribes and long time residents off the land as if Proper. Then know-nothings like you come bring up the rear guard, sprinkling ignorance all around so that no truth can bloom. But your chemicals are weak and the sun will dissolve them.

There’s a poison in the air my friends, it’s not new and it’s never not been there, but its comin down hard right now. I tend to think there is no middle of the road in this one, a bottle of half-poison is not a remedy.
Compromise in a situation is a short-term tactic. But compromise in the face of fear/racism is long-term capitulation…a legitimization of those very arguments.
