News With Nezua | The War on Truth

THE WAR ON POVERTY. The War on Drugs. The War on Terrorism. Is it safe to say the USA loves war? Is it more accurate to say the USA is war? Could the nation exist as we know it were we not maintaining a War on Truth every day?

How do we find justice in such a place? Let’s envision a land that exists hand in hand with truth. Let’s fight for that vision.

It’s unfortunate that my blog reading takes place in places where audio is not an option. Darnit.

Just watched this piece in its entirety. Quite thought provoking. One thing struck me in particular: the “war on drugs” as it relates to Felipe Calderon.

Before Calderon came into office, the level of violence and deaths in Mexico(I assume) was much lower than now. In other words, there was a truce between the Mexican government and the cartels. Now, it appears to be leaning towards chaos. Which brings me to the other significant battleground for the “war on drugs”: Colombia.

Colombia, unlike Mexico, had been consistently violent due to Guerillas, prodigous production of cocaine, and the vast landscape of jungles.(I know, I probably simplified it too much) Enter “Plan Colombia”. Statistics show that, on the whole, “Plan Colombia” succeeded in at least one important manner: a steep drop in violence against civilians on the aggregate. Nonetheless, drug production has remained steady despite the decline in violence.

I think the distinction between Colombia and Mexico U.S. funded wars on drugs is worth exploring because the Colombians “war on drugs” was to address imminent danger from violence whereas Mexico did not face the same imminent danger. Why create death when there is no death?
