The first time I stumbled onto your blog I was hooked. I always know I’ve found something good when it makes me jump up and down and say “Yes! Yes! That’s it! Right on!” and your blog, your writing do that for me. While I have to say that TMC is the loser in this situation, I have no doubt that you will soon be on to better things. Keep the faith, hermano, and keep on doing what you do.

I think you hit the nail on the head when you gave the examples of the unedited and edited paragraphs on that book. Your writing is powerful because it is unedited, because it is emotionally involved, and it speaks to your readers.

Well put, gitana, I completely agree.

I had an experience last year that was similar in some ways, different in others. Similar in that I worked for about a year in an initial position at a website, building the community and the “brand,” and then found myself on the outs rather suddenly, scratching my head wondering what went wrong. It’s a long story, but that situation is bound to be unpleasant for anyone.

Different in that I’m a white male writing about immigration, so I didn’t experience some of the factors Nez describes in the same way. Obviously.

But I never wrote out my frustrations, happiness, and thought process the way Nez did here. Reading it was cathartic for me, so thank you for that.

Nezua, I’ve been following your blog for ages, but when you started with the Consortium, I tried reading what you wrote for them and didn’t feel hooked. Your blog, your writing, generally hooks me, keeps me reading no matter how long it is (like this one today), but the paid ones I always found… less engaging. So when I saw at the heading that it was for your paid gig, I stopped reading. And I think you hit the nail on the head when you gave the examples of the unedited and edited paragraphs on that book. Your writing is powerful because it is unedited, because it is emotionally involved, and it speaks to your readers. I am disappointed with TMC, and I hope that people read this blog today and really hear what you’re saying about the progressive movement, about pushing power out to the margins, about remembering that erasing the history is not progressive. As a woman who is a mixture of white&brown, who studies Chicano lit and deals with shit from both sides— I LOVE your blog and I’m glad to read more of you un-edited. Thank you for what you do, and for your honesty.
