COLUMBUS GO HOME!
AN ACTIVIST SEEKING TO BRING a little balance to the Tea Party conversation infiltrates an event, gets the podium and enlists the utterly clueless crowd in a chant to send European immigrants back to where they came from.
THIS IS HILARIOUS. The first clue that the anti-”amnesty” hate train has been derailed is his mention of Smallpox. And yet, even though liberal activist “Robert Erickson” goes on and on to detail why European immigrants, “responsible for Genocide” and countless other crimes and conflict brought upon “real Americans,” the racist, anti-immigrant crowd cheers him. Even at the end, when he has his fist in the air shouting for Columbus to “Go Home.” Too much.
From the YouTube page:
On November 14 “Robert Erickson” was introduced to the Minnesota Tea Party Against Amnesty as a Minneapolis resident concerned about illegal immigration. Sometimes the devil is in the details, as the supporters of the anti-immigrant Minnesotans Seeking Immigration Reform (MINN-SIR) slowly learn.
On the other hand, some of them never quite figured out that “Robert” wasn’t on their side.
It’s a great laugh, much needed.
I guess the not-so-funny part is how quickly and enthusiastically a group of humans who gather in the name of racist separatism and couching goals in violence-tinged imagery like bullets, homeland, borders, defend, invasion, etc—line up behind a cheer, a chant, anyone saying anything as long as they think they are marching in the name of their unholy hostility. This is how fascism and violent movements feed themselves, with minds like this.
As quickly becomes clear:
Unfortunately, some of the pro-MINN-SIR audience made up for what they lacked in humor through the use of violence. Both Danielson and I saw middle-aged men attack young protesters, knocking one off a bike before he started throwing punches at the young man.
Just as shocking was the reaction of the state police working the rally, who pushed back those being attacked, rather than those attacking the counter protesters.

Followed your tweet here Nezua.
It’s funny to watch how easy a situation can be turned on someone who can’t think past certain talking points. There is a saying in Germany (considering the history of this country, some [Amurricans] may find this to their surprise) That we are all foreigners everywhere. I think if a country which once spawned the likes of the Nazis could get over their fear of foreigners, then it just goes to show how backwards Amurrica has become.
These vatos had it coming. Laughing my ass off.
well said!
a good laugh for sure…it’s needed lately.
Nezua, I’m a longtime lurker, but I just had to say muchas gracias!!! This is not only hilarious – it’s a tad frightening. It conjures up memories of the KKK in my SC home when I was growing up. And yes, the actions of the cops here, mirrored the actions of the cops back then – especially when the white Southern appetite for “Strange Fruit” came a-knockin’.
Thanks Deb. Glad you’re around. Thanks for sharing your story here.
This guy is a hero
we need more like this.
Showing this video is a cheap shot. Just like you lefty bloggers, taking every opportunity to portray us REAL Amerikans as being stupit.
Stop giving us opportunities, maybe we stop taking them.

I finally got the chance to watch this. Boy, did I have a laugh out of it. Crowd pretty much went along without really thinking. As a librarian and educator, I can see I have my work cut out for me in terms of trying to teach some people how to think. And yet, my heart fills with joy with people like Mr. Erickson can do things like this. I just loved it. Thanks.
Best, and keep on blogging.
I know what you mean! A melange of feeling and thought. Funny and scary, too. What times we live in. Keep on! And thank you.
