He is a haunted, hateful man who is, as a result, surrounded by ghosts and hate. And he will never make the connection between his inner state and his outer experiences. There is no understanding there that would allow him to heal that huge chasm within himself. Instead, he tries to fill it with hatred and fear and arrogance and self-loathing and self-righteousness. He is literally choking to death on his own white male privilege. I would feel sorry for this man if his words weren't the catalyst for the very real harm being done to the people he vilifies.
