Nezua Embarks on Netroots Nation Journey!

OFF WE GO AGAIN into the wild blue yonder. It’s time to travel once more, and as most of these conventions so far are on the East Coast, that means a coast to coast trip for yours truly. Wish me well, and maybe I’ll see some of you out there.

cameramouthTOMORROW I fly to Pittsburgh to attend Netroots Nation, as I wrote about recently. As usual, I am a bit anxious. That’s just what shuttling all over the nation in various planes and taxis and such does to me. But I am hoping the opportunity is enriching, and I plan to use it to provide a book end for a documentary short I began shooting at Yearlykos 07. A way of looking back and capping off the thought process and experience and arc of learning that bridged those days to these. So I’ll have to bring my little videocamera as well as my still camera. In addition I have audio recording equipment and iPhone….really, I have more equipment than I could carry and packing always becomes a question of what is the least amount of equipment I could bring and still capture, satisfactorily, everything I need to.

As time goes on, the gear gets smaller and lighter. Truth is, if I were in a situation away from my professional gear, I could still capture video or stills on my iPhone and it’s not too bad quality, all things considered. At least I would have a way to shoot. Yet, I still have the urge every time to completely weigh myself down with gear, extra gear, just in case gear, adaptors, wires, batteries, backup cameras….it’s a balance that a guerrilla filmmaker has to find for her/himself over time.

So today is all about laundry, packing, lists, hitting last minute things, mail, charging electric gear etc. It’s good. I’ll be too busy to get too distracted by anxiety. And then I’ll be up too early to do much aside from get dressed, grab  my bags, and get in the cab.

Meanwhile, wish me buen viaje, safe travels, and speedy arrivals and if you’ve a dollar or two help me eat on the road, then make with the clickie below! Otherwise, stay tuned. I’ll blog as I go, short blogs here at UMX, audio clips here, and fotos here.

But before I go I MUST mention the tense US-MX match at Azteca Stadium tomorrow! I want to watch this one so bad, but will be traveling. Doubt I’ll be able to. Mexico just thrashed the US team, taking the Gold Cup, at Giants Stadium. There is nothing but tension, now, and between the history and the challenges on both sides, this game promises to be very high energy.

Adios! Talk to you soon.
