Brown Furies and Fearful Futurists
A WELL-RENOWNED FUTURIST cannot see beyond the veil of his own psychic cataract, offering a possible future where disgruntled “Hispanics” start a race war. How sad that those so trusted to spot the flaws in our social fabric remain blind to what is before their own eyes.
ACCORDING TO ONE FUTURE DOOMSDAY SCENARIO cooked up by futurist Peter Schwartz of the Global Business Network (GBN), racial warfare will break out in earnest sometime after 2050 in the US, when whites are no longer the majority. “Hispanics” will be the cause.
Firstly, I’m not being alarmist. It was less of an actual attempt at clairovoyance and more of a thought exercise. A futurist maps out possible future scenarios by looking at current cultural trends and laws and news and tech happenings. They don’t predict, but more often make observations about possible weak spots in the social fabric in order that those might be addressed in time. They often get paid to do so for a particular interested party.
GBN, the “world’s leading provider of futuristic consulting” was asked to come up with Doomsday Scanarios, as were other futurists. They were to project no further than 100 years into the future.
I want to focus for a second on GBN’s view into the possible future marred by racial warfare.
This morning, in a conference room full of fellow forecasters, Schwartz happily plays the emcee for the end of America. He speaks more quickly and authoritatively than anyone else, and he’s the one patrolling the line between what’s crazy enough to destroy the United States and what’s just plain crazy. His first idea: racial warfare.
By 2050, whites will no longer be a majority in the United States and Hispanics will make up an estimated 29 percent of the population. “Most violence is committed by males 18 to 35,” Schwartz explains. “Now picture a very large, low-employed Hispanic population of males not too pleased with their lot or their ability to control a white-dominated world. … That population then becomes violent and disruptive. And now you get into racial and identity politics—it’s all those illegal immigrants we let across the border.” Add in a flailing economy, mega-droughts in the Southwest, and the “Colombianization” of Mexico and you’ve got The Road Warrior crossed with an unusually rabid episode of Lou Dobbs Tonight.
Aside from being channeled by a writer who picks odd moments to get comic, this disappoints me. I had just added Schwarz’ book to my Amazon Wish List, but I think I’ll take it off. Nobody this culturally blind can enrich my mind to the degree I would enjoy.
Firstly, Schwarz presents that scary “event” factoid again about Whites Becoming a Minority. But let’s be clear: this concept blows the minds not of Hispanics, but of fearful “white” men. They are the ones stocking up on guns and killing people lately in highly visible race-based killings. From the Holocaust shooter to the Luis Ramirez or Marcelo Lucero killings to the Oscar Grant murder…it’s not hard to track, or see who is letting fear and race twist their head off.
Schwarz does mention the “illegal immigrant” stance (that is sometimes even used by even mainstream media) and it seems from the sentence construction that when he says “Identity Politics,” he refers, actually, to anti-immigrant voices. Then again, you hardly need to be a futurist to see the that vitriol taking place even today and for a while.
But the idea, even in this make-believe scenario, that it will be the growing number of “Hispanics” that will start the violence (ignoring the fact that it is already “Hispanics” being victimized more and more by hate crimes and the violence of “racial warfare” goes on every day against the non-white) is simply the workings of the White Lens. The age old fear of Whiteness—that once the dominant culture lacks the superior firepower or numbers, the Brown™ will erupt in a vicious, vengeance-taking tidal wave of retribution…. This bloodcrusted projected guilt fills even the aforementioned Futurist’s thoughts.

Does he really think “Hispanics” long to “control” the world?? And ‘not pleased with our “lot’”? Wow. What lot?
We are just doing our thing. The census burps out some numbers and it ain’t us getting crazy! Nope. It’s the rich white pundits stoned on Preparation H who jump up to stir the racial discontent of millions of their listeners/readers. That is not us. That is YOU being “not too pleased with your lot” or “ability” to control the population of the world!
If racial warfare breaks out in any actual sense, firstly, it would be horribly sad. And ugly. I think most of us just want to keep working, loving, living, enjoy this world. Even Iraqis and Afghanis, arguably victims of race war already. But if it comes to the US writ large, it sure won’t be the “Hispanics” starting it!
Let’s be real. It’s actually too late to even use that phrase, or the word “if.” The race war in the US is smacked down daily by means of handcuff, gavel, and cell door. It’s up to us to find a new way, now. And hope those folks with fragile mindsets can deal with the twists and turns in our changing culture without breaking apart entirely.
It started long ago.
The problem with futurists is they have to say “if present trends continue,” but then have to ignore the “present trends.”
IF certain present trends continue, “hispanics” will — as they have throughout “hispanialandia” since 1492 or so — both assimilate into, and appropriate, the “native” culture. In other words, whatever the heck whiteness and “hispanidad” are is already changing meaning. Not too long ago, Greeks, Italians and Arabs were not considered “white”. Jews were off at the side somewhere, not quite “white” (except when convenient). Second, third, and subsequent generations of Latin@s do not think, act or even speak like Latin Americans: the Mexicans can spot a Mexican-American a kilometer away… and go out somewhere like west Texas or New Mexico, where Tejanos have always been the majority, and it’s hard to tell Billy Bob Garcia from his cousin Juan Jones.
Then, again, maybe if “present trends continue” , the likeliest scenario was the one outlined by Tariq Nelson (tariqnelson.com) in which “majority” is redefined (as it was to include Jews, Greeks, Italians, etc.) to include at least “some” Hispanics… and still screw over HIS minority (African-American) is as likely.
If other “present trends continue” maybe the U.S. will become more like “Hispanialandia” and the prejudices will be more social class based. Poor whites sometimes give people the idea that all white guys are yo-yos (ok, sometimes we are!), but they feel abandoned (for good reason) from their secure perch they enjoyed when “race” alone determined one’s position in society. You don’t hear much about the “talented tenth” (W.E.B. DuBois’ contention that the best educated and positioned minority people owed it to the rest of their community to open doors), maybe because it worked too well. While it’s still true that a Latina woman has to be three times as wise to get the same respect as a white man, people in general are OK with a black boss (with a PhD) or a Latina supervisor (provided she speaks New Yorkese, and not Nuevoyorqueno) or an Asian police chief (five or six generations removed from Chinatown). Maybe, we’ll only need a talented fifth this round… and then go to a Nacos v. Juniors type prejudice, like the sane people down in “Hispanialandia.”
That is, if future trends continue, and the future is like the present — only different.

I’ve always said that projection is a dangerous thing. Of course when you think of history as nothing more than an endless cycle of violence/revenge it sort of makes sense. The Golden Rule in reverse, “They will do unto us as we have done unto them.”
