Weekly Immigration Wire: The Morality of Reform

ON TUESDAY, relations between the U.S. and Cuba thawed a bit more. Discussions for implementing U.S.-Cuba Migration accord resumed after a six year stall. This move is another positive mark for diplomatic progress between the two countries.

White Men Can’t Judge [Daily Show]

ONCE AGAIN, beating out the Serious Commentary that most TV programming attempts on such issues, here’s Jon Stewart of the Daily Show with a piece on the Sotomayor confirmation hearings going on. Much thanks for helping us laugh about the lunacy that passes as thoughtful politics these days.

They Beseech The Wise Latina…

THEY BESEECH THE WISE LATINA TO SOOTHE THEIR TREMBLING AND WOUNDED EGOS. Like petulant babies they repeatedly, almost to the point of absurdity, demand she confess her irrational temperament. And throughout it all cannot see the irony.

The Times, They Be Cambiando

SO YESTERDAY AND TODAY have been the SCOTUS hearings on Judge Sonia Sotomayor’s nomination to the Supreme Court. American Border Patrol’s Jaramillo: Gheen of ALIPAC “Psychotic”

THE ANTI-IMMIGRANT/Anti-Mexican/Anti-Latino/Anti-Reason crowd was holding down the Sane and Well-Meaning façade more or less okay…until one of their own pushed it a little too far and went on a little murder spree against a Mexican American family. Now? The façade falls a bit more. Now the naked, grimy cheekbones jut out.

The Power of Truth and the Weakness of Tough Talk

WHO WILL GIVE THE DEMOCRATS A TOUGH TALK? Who will tell them that in order to rise above the well-entrenched practices of the Right, they will need to be daring, intelligent, and original? Who will assure them they possess the ability to be both honest and victorious?
