Buckling Dominance and the Sotomayor Distractions

OKAY SO LET’S TALK about Sonia Sotomayor. Some want to hear about O’Reilly and piñatas and ropes and sick cartoons and racist Newt Rich-Gringo’s words and Rush “BloatColon” Limbaugh and I’m over here talking about love! AY!

I haven’t even hardly touched this one. It’s ironic—like Alannis Morissette stealing your cake on your wedding day. Or something like that. Anyway, I’ve been writing here on identity issues and what it means to be Brown (from my specific angle of course) here in US culture and allll that this entails for over three years now. You know that. I was talking about the cultural angles and even as pertains to Obama’s mestizo-like makeup back when he was just starting to run, and all because it fits into what I write about here. So this Sotomayor event seems tailor made for the UMX blog…so why no talkie?

I have to admit it’s a little fun to watch the larger Librul Blogosphere take a whack at it. So many folks who (not long ago at all) screamed at me and my blogmig@s that we were injecting race and identity in a place it did not belong. Now to watch the same ones wax all racial and cultural, well. It brings the smile back into my politics. And you know I could link oh so very deeply, but that would expend my smiling energy.

So let’s just smile for a moment remembering all that noise.

Next, I guess it all seems redonkulously obvious to me. Of course the GOP is racist. Of course white men generally freak the fuck out when you say suggest there are things the experience of being a white male will shortchange you on. (See the Glosario, or the UMX Blogger Stylebook, Chapter 1: Definition of Terms, Hullo. This is legacy UMX stuff!)

So in a way, it’s like “so…i should repeat the last three years, but today, and as if it’s brand new commentary?” Seems…sort of boring to me. At this point, honestly, I’d like us all to be talking about the good Judge’s rulings record just a bit more than how sick a piñata/lynching cartoon is or if she understands things about being a woman old men do not.

Listen: the next ten twenty, or forty years are going to get increasingly ugly. The dominant culture will slowly be unseated. Sorry to say it that way, but that’s the way it be. Now, knowing Empire, it’s very well possible that we will see many brown and black faces in the fancy seats for quite a long time, but the guts of the players will have allegiance to the dominant culture (by which I mean old, white, men). But that is expected, that’s the overlap. As time goes on, this adherence to a disgustingly unbalanced set of preferences to a small, obsolete, ruling class will just seem more and more ridiculous. And that is because as time goes on, less and less power will back up the threat of not adhering to it. But we’re not there yet. And right now, the old fearmongers like Rush, Newt, Tancredo, Dobbs, and all the other fools who will be dead in a couple decades have to kick up their heels something terrible. They think they are fighting a culture slipping away, but they are wrong. However, they can take up their personal problems with a shrink, I’m not giving any free help today. Anyway, all this shmuckery is par for the course, and to me and my angle of watching stuff, it’s really right on time and not even worth a blink.

Of course, that doesn’t mean don’t fight, do! We need to fight for all the right things. Just explaining why I’ve not been talking on it.

Now, as the aging anti-diversity racialists and fearful players lose their juice, they will try new tricks to adapt to the changing culture. And clearly one of those ways is to activate a built-in response from the Left. The “Left” increasingly is synonymous with “brown/woman” in the major US political arena, because the GOP is the Rich Old White Guys’ (and Self-Denying Sycophants’) Club.” So increasingly, all the Right has to do to put the Left on defense is to use a slur. And now the Left is playing Reaction. And the Right is controlling the conversation. And all that is being talked about is something everyone knows: The GOP is racist.

The SCOTUS makeup is important. One of the more important parts of our government as it is so long lasting and sets rules so far reaching. And this is a crucial time. This nation is so much more conservative than I am comfortable with as it is, and just peep the makeup of the court now! That moron who makes obscene gestures in Italian, and a few other stick-up-the-ass males. Hell yeah, I really don’t care how Left or Latina she is, to be honest. We need more women up in there! STAT! (And yes you know I want a Latina up in there! Okay, done.)

But Left/Right dichotomy doesn’t really work for me. A kid who runs a list serv recently said to me something like “our side is better than theirs at this” and it occurred to me that he doesn’t really mean “our” side when he says that. He means “Democrats.” And that side is one that is better for a larger amount of people overall in the long run (here I agree with Chomsky), but otherwise and unless things change a whole lot real soon, Democrats and Republicans are basically the twin engines of a corporate and military oligarchy machine that must be disassembled and made into ashtrays or something. Hat racks. If we are ever to have a good life, that is.

And by “we,” I mean the world.

Nailed it with the title Nez. The walls are crumbling down. Someone should make a show title “The World After Empire” (in the vein of The World After People TV Show/Book).

Chugging along on my writing. Getting ready to transcribe my (hopefully) last edit into my electronic computing machine and send queries to agents to see if I catch one in my net and from there literary success, or at least publication.

I’ll throw in the blog address to the novel (with excerpts) on my tag line.
