Agreed. Hormones in the water table, in the food, poisons in the environment on the level we don't see or notice or are protected from but which affect our DNA and bodies etc...it's a terrifying thing.

Thank you, Malicia. I appreciate that.

one thing that scares me is animals being fed hormones. There are so many studies showing that so many girls are going through puberty earlier is a result of hormones in beef. I personally eat beef now as an adult. It's got iron in it, I'm anemic, which many girls are after going through puberty, and iron pills bother my stomach and don't seem to work as well. I think it depends on person to person which diet is healthy for you, as long as it's lean meat some people's bodies actually do respond well to beef. I read a story about a vegatarian that had cancer and ate beef when she was recovering at her doctors suggestion.

But I wasn't very hungry and didn't like meat much when I was a kid, so to see the amount of beef I see little kids eat now seems alien to me, and I then I read those studies. Plus I have a lack of hormone due to a medical condition, so I take synthetic hormones, and I know how strongly they affect my body. If people are feeding this to kids, or people like me or the lady with cancer are eating beef to fill out our balanced diet and get the nutrients it provides, we're not looking for additional hormones.

And Nez, thanks for sharing what it was like to spend so much time in a chicken farm, your perspective was one I'm glad to be aware of.

Oh I didn't mean to imply that this entry was proselytizing a vegetarian lifestyle for ethical reasons, just responding to what you said above about some people arguing against the conditions we subject our food animals to by connecting it to vegetarianism.

you are right, "enjoy" was a terrible choice of word!

"proselytizing" is a funny word, too, and i am not sure how to integrate it, but hey. that's okay. i talk about what i feel and have lived and think, so thats good enough for me. i do think i understand that nobody likes others telling them what is Right or Wrong, etc. but i dont think i do that here. anyway, i figure folks take what works for them.

and i am in agreement with what you say on what we take into ourselves...

an excellent descriptive coverage of a horrific condition of our world. i don't know that "enjoy" is the correct term in the reading of this, as the read is what nightmares are made of yes? good job with that. :0
i also am not a vegetarian, and i personally don't know any of the proselytizing vegan types. (however, i do supply my omega and amino's with hemp products for example, one of the best sources for a complete protein - as well as other sources/ways to keep a balanced nutrition for a better chance at a balance life)(is that proselytizing? man does not live by bread alone?)jeje.
for me it is the understanding of the connection to "i am what i eat". it is also the knowing that i am more than just what i eat. so i try to make conscious my choices, to avoid connecting, supporting, and potentially creating that which is harmful (seen and unseen) to self and to all living things. it's personal. it's kinda my part for a better way - is all it is. it is to protect spirit. a driving force in us all.
peace, one love, and pass it on...yes?
