And I'm not even one who has been a direct, intended target of that oppression (I've felt it personally, but only through others). It's so galling, this blatant arbitrary illegalization of anything that throws a glaring light on what's really going on. I like how you put this so simply, making it sound as insane as it truly is: that "people migrating to areas that can economically sustain them" is "illegal" (and, it seems to some, the ultimate crime). Kind of makes the whole notion of legality, or illegality, seem so meaningless. Just reading that line, “a perceived oppressive government,” in its context within the article, actually made me feel like choking.
