¿Cómo se llama usted?
IMAGINE that it is my job to help choose a name for a baby boy that was due to be born yesterday and may be born today…or tomorrow. Or the next day. Now, dust off that favorite Spanish or Nahuatl name you’ve turned over in your mind and drop it in the suggestion box.

IMAGINE that it is my job to help choose a name for a baby that was due to be born yesterday and may be born today…or tomorrow. Or the next day. (Though today is a very real possibility so don’t hesitate!) Now, of course I’m going through my books and I may find the answer there. I’ve thought a few over, but nothing is decided. And after all, maybe you will have an idea that will seem just right when I read it.
SO! In the comments please offer one or more names for a baby boy. Offer as many names as you want. But please also note why you like it, where you heard it, what it means, and anything else you think is relevant.
Spanish and Nahuatl names are preferred.
update 15:55 PST, -8 GMT: phone call informs me that labor has begun, so i’m off for a bit.

Salvador. Savior or Salvation? Either way, that’s a hopeful name for a child and I’ve always liked the nickname Sal.
Yaxuun Bahlam. It was the name of one of the greatest kings of the Mayan city of Yaxchilan, and means Lovely Cotinga Jaguar. (The lovely cotinga is a type of bird.) It’s not Nahuatl, but I think Classic Mayan is pretty cool too.
you teach me as you ask me to think, exposing me to more. thanks.
two places i’ve gone to for better understanding.
a nahuatl-english basic dictionary http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Academy/3088/naheng.html
some great ideas there, examples: machtia- To teach, to show; itta- To see.; maca- To give.; ilhuicatl- Sky, heaven.; ihcuiloa- To write.; icniuhtli- Brother, friend.; ica- With.; huetzca- To laugh.; huehuetlahtolli- Old word. Cultural legacy, tradition, culture.; cueponi- To grow.; cochitta- To dream. “Seeing in your dream”. Visions (mystic).; chicahuac- Healthy, strong, tough, hard.; mohuelmati- To feel good.; nemi- To live.; tlamatini- Wise person, wisdom.
nez, the more i look the more i find, and you know i could/do get carried away:). i think i kinda like nemi which means to live. i like chicahuac too, (healthy, strong, tough, hard), sounds like a warrior.
another place i went to look due to a currant interest, is a site to help me understand better the mayan calander, cool stuff. there are some awesome names there with huge spiritual significance and meaning and could be relative to an event such as a birth? (for example: ahau, means sun, light, or lord; 20th day sign, day sign of completion. it carries a visionary southern energy. not necessarily easy). there is information to explain these signs more completely. there are other names and meanings that would be interesting to look at, i think anyway.
well there is my 2 cents, that can’t help itself but turn into 4-6 cents. a birth is exciting and i appreciate you asking us to participate. good stuff as always for the unified field of consciousness.
one love.
sorry, this is the link i was at for the mayan calander information.

Hehe, I’m dropping Mordecai here anyway!
Hmm.
I know you say Spanish and Nahuatl names are preferred. But I’m gonna defy you. Oh snap!
These are all Spanish.
Salvador (savior; thinking Dali)
Velasco (or Vasco for short; crow)
Vicente (prevailing)
Alucio (bright, shining, lucid)
Epifanio (epiphany, bringing light)
Eleodoro (gift from the sun, another form is “Heliodoro”)
Noe (peace, rest)
A nifty Old French one: Vardon (green knoll).
Meztli (You need another Moon in the family :-p)
Tlalli (Earth)
Toltecatl (Artist)
Olin (movement)
Susi (Filipino for key)
Oh yeah, and Silvestro. *koff*
thank you my friends! i’ll keep checking in. i’m making a list, got my history books and my web pages open…
ps i really like some of these.
I kinda like Xbalanque which, although not nahuatl, rolls off the tongue very nicely. He was one of the hero twins in the Popol Vuh. My friend, who knows way more about nahuatl than I do (her daughter is named Citlalli) likes Huitzilopoztli, but he is a god of war, so I’m not so sure you want that association.
For Spanish I like Rafael, which means God has healed. I don’t like it for that, though, I just dig the nickname Rafa. I had a huge crush on a man named Miguel Angel, and I always thought that was a beautiful name.
some of those are great! yes, huitzilopochtli is why i wear a hummingbird around my neck. but i’m nt sure its a good idea to name a child after a god like that. or if it is, i’m not sure i want to lay down that type of legacy, as you imply. but trust me, i thought of a lot of “huitzil” based names.
i like “rafa” too. (shouts out to puertoriqueño amigo and reader rafa!)
and the sound of “Miguel An-hel” is very nice, too.
thanks.
Alamar (covered with gold, gilded) – sounds like a cool name for a brown boy. :-p
Amitai (Hebrew for truth)
Hahahaha, I found a random names generator and it came up with this:
Sounds like a son you’d have. :-p
I wanted to name my son Nezahuacoyotl but my wife feared that he would struggle to spell it during kindergarten. Thus, we named him Zavier. I think Nez would have been a cool name. I am 52 and doubtful if I ever have more children unless I become a Utah polygamist. If I ever did have another son I would want to name him Nez.
Just a quick thought:
Zen Amado
Mahuizoh ["glorious person"] Lets him know right off who he is. Also, Zoh seems like a great nickname. Mazel tov.
thank you all! such great ideas! funnily, it was NOT a boy. everyone, all the mujeres here were so sure, i took it on faith. we had girls names picked out. but no boys. but here is a great list of ideas if ever there is another boy. (no rush, no no no)
thank you again.
congrats
