The Department of Homeland Hypocrisy [A Tale of Lies & Loss]

IS THE USA a nation of cheating the system any way you can, getting paid to lie and be a hypocrite while taking advantage of those in need? Or is this a nation where a day’s work is worth a day’s pay, and a dream strapped with motivation is worth honest regard and reward?

Art by Nezua @ XOLAGRAFIK.comTHE UGLIEST THING to my mind, about so many politicians’ positions on immigration (and this applies to many other motions and behaviors in this nation that at the core are fueled by greed, deception, or racism, por ejemplo) is seen in a dynamic I call “The Lovestruck Locust.” The short definition would be (and I just realized I’ll have to add this to The Glosario) is “the behavior of aiding the oppression, subjugation, delegitimization, or persecution of a culture and its peoples while also appropriating, copying, stealing, exploiting, or otherwise enjoying select elements of that culture.”

We saw this with Mitt Romney back in August of 2007, the month I officially warned the GOP of the damage they would soon suffer to their party in How to Commit Republican Suicide, Pt. 734. We saw this with Tancredo, who was handed his own ass when he tried to run on a hardcore Nativist platform. We saw it with John McCain recently, and we saw it in Illiinois with Jim Oberweis.

Art by Nezua @ XOLAGRAFIK.comReal badasses don’t appreciate the weaker or less empowered being bullied. A Real American does not appreciate rich fatcats lying to us about how they are getting over on us and the system they are paid to enforce. And no integrity-loving person of any nation appreciates the sheer hypocrisy in discoveries like this:

BOSTON — A top Homeland Security official in Boston was accused Friday of repeatedly hiring illegal immigrants to clean her home, even warning one not to leave the country “’cause once you leave, you will never be back.”

Lorraine Henderson, the regional director of Homeland Security, Customs, and Border Protection, was arrested Friday at her home in Salem. She was charged with harboring an illegal alien and ordered released on $25,000 unsecured bond during an initial appearance in federal court. She was expected to appear in federal court in Boston later Friday on a charge of harboring an illegal alien.

If convicted, Henderson faces up to 10 years in prison. She declined to comment after her court appearance.
A spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney’s office said Henderson has been placed on paid administrative leave, pending a decision next week on whether she will be suspended without pay.

Ted Woo, a spokesman for Customs and Border Protection, said Henderson has worked for the agency formerly known as U.S. Customs Services for 33 years. She has been the Boston Area Port Director for five years, he said.

As part of her duties as port director, Henderson is responsible for stopping illegal immigrants from entering the country through all air and sea international ports in Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts. She also commands 190 armed and uniformed border protection officers.

Border official accused of hiring illegal workers

Why do the men get off scot-free, while this woman gets the hammer? And why does she get the hammer at all, when clearly a number of politicians admit by their own actions that the immigration system is unworkable? There is work and labor to be done. There are people who are happy to do it for pay.

We need to pay them, we need to protect them, and we need to get real about our needs and their needs and what kind of nation we want this to be about. Is it a nation of cheating the system any way you can, getting paid to lie and be a hypocrite, and take advantage of those in need? Or is this a nation where a day’s work is worth a day’s pay, and a dream strapped with motivation is worth honest regard and reward?

This is why I am so thankful for unions…despite the corruption and racism within some of them…

and I sent you an email ( via digg ) with an article about the Wyatt Prison where Jason Ng died this summer…I put a link on my blog…

Unions….. (cringe) But that is for another time…..

I agree with this article wholeheartedly. Too much corruption and hypocrisy in what should be a decent department.

    Although I did like Romney…..
Just proof though that a politician (any and ALL for that matter) will say whatever they think they need to say to get elected.

    Tancredo was a hack anyhow.

    Hola,

I am a new reader to your site and enjoy a good debate. I live in Mexico and have for ten + years. Yes you are correct on two points here: it is usually the woman who receives the most harsh punishments but this is the case in most countries and cultures including MEXICO. I am not proud or pleased with this fact but I do speak from experience. The other point you make about hypocritical government US officials breaking the law and being corrupt is also true. Its more true now than ever before but perhaps we see it this way because technology has enabled us to communicate these things more easily. Just take a look at the Mexican news and you will find the exact same thing. Mexican government corruption from the top all the way down. I am not referring to the news stories in English that are published in USA or UK but those in Spanish that appear in periodicals like La Jornada, OEM, Reforma, etc. So don’t think the US has the exclusive monopoly on corruption and hypocracy, for it is a human trait for which I apologize but cannot help.

I certainly believe that human dignity must dictate compassionate treatment of migrants in the USA. However, I must remind you that they have broken the law when they crossed the border illegally and it is costing taxpayers a fortune. Now what happens to illegal migrants that are caught by immigration in MEXICO? You know the answer, they are treated MUCH WORSE and inhumanely than those that find themselves in the same position in USA.

Maybe you are accustomed to seeing the praise of the choir commenting on your many stories. Now you will start to see some opposition as your views are more widely published. Friendly opposition though at least from me.

Mexico is literally falling apart at the seams but I am raising my Mexican children to STAY HERE and fight for their rights and to make this country great again. Their Mexican father is in agreement however he cannot communitcate like I can.

Is the “allmighty dolar” worth leaving your family behind while your country falls apart all around them? STAND UP FOR YOURSELF and make your govenrnment responsible for its actions!! DO NOT buy into the encouragement to leave this beautiful country to make money under the table and illegally to send back so as the alleviate the responsablity your government has for its people. Don’t you see this? You are a pawn and playing into their plan exactly like they want you to. You are too talented to do this.

It is ironic that I an American find myself in Mexico living up to the responsibility that people like yourself are not. In my opinion (and you’re not going to like this) those who leave Mexico for dinero are cowards for not insisting that this country becomes the awesome place it should be, a country whose resources, richness and people are the envy of the planet.

Just read through my site a bit before you get too sure of yourself! My themes are not that the USA is corrupt and Mexico is not! But I’ll let you read for yourself because clearly you are trying to judge my entire body of work and agenda by one post and making assumptions that any reader of mine knows are off-base. Not very smart.

    2)

However, I must remind you that they have broken the law when they crossed the border illegally and it is costing taxpayers a fortune.

Unjust laws were meant to be challenged. Once the law was slavery. Once the law was marriage as property. Once the law was women couldn’t vote. Saying ITS THE LAAAAWWWW does not somehow conjure an irrefutable voice of Truth to your cause! And crossing the border isn’t even a misdemeanor. As far as taxes, you are wrong. Many taxes go into US coffers that the undocumented cannot claim come tax refund time. So it’s actually the other way around. And if the US wasn’t so busy pumping money into the prison-for-profit system, we’d all have more money floating around.

Are you sure you’re not a man? Sometimes opposition shows up here and thinks that if they claim to be a woman, their rudeness or false comments won’t be confronted. And you sound terribly arrogant for a woman. Most women don’t show up first time sounding so pompous. Anyway, I’ve been writing out here on this for years. And if you really think that with your grand entrance a time of woe-filled challenge to UMX will be ushered in, you are delusional. I get hate mail that would curl your hair, and I have since I began. Not a big deal. I can take anything you got!

How are you teaching them to fight for their rights? What rights? Please, tell us so others can follow your path. Because it sounds good to me! Everyone should be taught as much.

And I’m glad you are so comfortable speaking for your husband, but why can’t he “communitcate” like you? Do you mean he can’t show up on English language blogs and post comments? For crying out loud, you sound terribly bigoted for someone in your situation! He is free to come here and write in Spanish if he wants, after all.

Oh, I see. You are an American probably living right here in the US who is trying a new tact of getting Mexicans to stay in Mexico. Nice. As if people who cannot support themselves are dreaming of some beautiful vacation instead of the simple ability to eat food and have shelter. As if the reason most migrants come to the US is so they can have a nice furlong in an amusement park. You tell people to take care of their families as if that’s not what they try to do when they send money back home…which you say not to do. Hoo boy. The turns and twists are confusing.

Hey, tho, in case you are what you say, please do detail the ways in which your fellow countrymen can “stand up” and “make the government responsible.” If you know even an eighth as much as you claim about Mexican government, you already know how deep the corruption runs. So your command seems an odd one, since you already wrote that you apologize for they hypocrisy and corruption in humans, but “it cannot be changed”! Ay, reporters in Mexico are getting killed left and right just for writing about the truth, let alone confronting anyone with it. And as anyone with actual knowledge of the entire relationship and history between the US and MX knows, much of México’s downturns are connected to the US’s policies. You can’t wall off cause and effect with a fence.

You! Writing here as if remittances are a brand new thing that you can stem with a blog comment! You are funny.

Oh, your words don’t really bother me. Sorry to disappoint. But you’d be surprised at how many tactics I’ve had thrown at me in the course of my work. And an impersonator’s comment rife with falsehood, contradiction, insult, and faux compliments is actually a very tired format.

    Peace.
