Wonderful commentary (as usual) about a horrifying situation.

So much of me hopes humanity will become more humane, even in the face of regular displays of various and sundry -isms and phobias... and I fight for the dregs of optimism I still manage to possess... but more and more often that optimism is shot down before it can blossom into anything substantial. I don't want to be any more jaded and cynical than I already am, and it's stories like the above that make me want to sigh in resignation.

When will people wake up?
