Friday Morning Rebel Roll Call

I TALK A LOT ABOUT BOB MARLEY, quote him, name domains after his lyrics, and so on. There was no more prevalent music in my childhood than Bob Marley, and his views on life informed some of my own early points of view even when I wasn’t aware it was happening. Or maybe they just provided the perfect scoring to my 70s experience, eh?

Is it FAIR to hate?

JUST LIKE THE SINGER AT THE ST. PAUL ANTI-WAR RALLY said of his band’s song Rock the Empire, this is a “call and response” post. ‘I shout out one thing, and you answer!’ he said…as I kept an eye on the police in riot gear, already gathering like storm clouds and in apparently no mood to rock much except the long batons in their hands.

True to Form

I feel we need more permission to be less conclusive and less defined and to bleed over our boundaries a bit. That approach is even what allows me to shift and change in the ways I do. Any label or title we fit upon ourselves ought immediately feel like a crown of thorns, ought immediately be suspect and deemed temporary at best. When we draw those concrete boundaries, those barbed-wire assignments—even around only ourselves—we are also deciding that others ought be contained in the remaining space.

a september remembered

NEVER FORGET. This is what many people say about September 11th, 2001. I say it, too. Though I’m not sure I mean it in the same way. Herein is a tale, including diary entries made from NYC during the WTC explosions, of the changes that those horrifically violent and altogether terrifying events inspired in me. They changed me forever, and in some ways, I would be unrecognizable to you now, had they not occurred.

Oxnard Grows its Latino Pride!

LATINO HERITAGE MONTH approaches (Sep. 15 – Oct. 15) and we see the rise of both pride and solidarity, as well as outright resistance to our celebrating our culture, language, and feelings of pride for who we are and where we have come from. In Oxnard, Califas, the celebration of Latino history and culture is being held for the first time.

Let Me Tell You A Story

STILL WORKING IT ALL OUT. For the last two days I have been editing and uploading fotos from the DNC and the RNC. And of course I have to get it all out, get it all down, or what really was the point of going? Telling the story is not really separate from the experience, and it’s not owed or anything. It is just part of being me and going.

The Front Line is Everywhere – RNC 08

The GOP actually needs an army now, to make itself evident and dare celebrate anything in public. They have lied, killed, they laugh while we suffer with health problems or bemoan the loss of life and humanity. They bring their army to protect them from the voice of the People they supposedly serve.

Homeward Bound

AND FINALLY, after 12 days or so, I am just about done with the conventions and with flying and with huge political extravaganzas and with taxing my credit card and with blogging for Kenneth Cole Productions and with mixing my brain up with wildly fluctuating sleep schedules. Honestly, I have stretched my perception and comfort [...]

Flying the Pinche Skies

I AM IN ” AIRPLANE MODE” which means no signals are being sent out, but I can write a draft of this post and post it when we hit the ground. It is 9:43 am. I am not on the intended flight, but have been moved to a different series of flights, given one extra [...]
