It's interesting reading your take on the GOP convention because from home the media seemed to have casually glossed over the protests meanwhile focusing more of their time and attention on John McCain's v.p. choice.

-n-, you are so welcome and thank you for a place to go, so i can make my attempt to reacquaint with like understandings. i have been absent for a few days and am glad to see you are back. you were missed, but only physically not spiritually. i felt your conscience at work. that's cool stuff.

(rc) -my ability to go anywhere is restricted, to leave the country not an option now, and a challenge under the best of my circumstances. i am grateful to you who can, with the vision to see what is as is. i feel rc's prophetic words as a truth. it will be the will/way scenario for me, to venture forth, however that may manifest for me.

for now i'm off to the new reads you have given to us nezua. i'll always see you there. thanx.

I'm a dropout from the US. But that doesn't mean that I don't wish the citizens and the Constitution well. It just means I could see where it was going for me, and not wanting to share the fate of the Weathermen or the Panthers I forfeited the game.
I really do not think my example is the best. I greatly admire those {perhaps like Obama} who wish to stay, put up with the incredible abuse of invasion of privacy, being an object of hate, fighting to help people who would bite their noses to spite their faces, and bite your nose too, and in general, fight to the top of the heap in order to be the King of the Dunghill that is the US political and economic system at present.
Obama was right long ago, and I hope he gets elected and is a severe iconoclast. A change has to come in many ways. But from 1963 to 1979, I never saw how that could be accomplished without lots of bloodshed {there was bloodshed, but it wasn't massive}so I left in late 1979.
That's my story, and I do not consider it a happy one. My personal lesson as a US citizen is simple. If you are a fully conscious person, the political realities in the US are enraging on a daily basis. I couldn't live like that. Yet, I will quickly admit that I still see no answers and I think it is quite possible that McCain will win the election, after all, past IS prologue in many cases. So when the Republicans get in, if you are getting out, go fast, and get another citizenship, because the new trend is asset confiscation for those that want to leave. You can look it up.

all the reasons are sound for the exodus...i too am one who lives out a hope in the potential of possibility here (constitutionally or whatever will make sense).... at this time, i am off to my 9-4 because i have to. all could be worse for me, as i know it is for others, so am grateful for what i got - (yes, this thinking does keep me passive, but it is thinking i have to do for now and even for the long run). i think there is wisdom existing, only it is the inability to combine and strengthen in the numbers necessary (and that may result in the extinction of us). maybe a collective consciousness will prevail and manifest a destiny of reason, possibly with purpose? you, al, nezua, others here, and around this sphere are hope that matters? i dunno... i gotta get to quizno's, it's a matter of discipline of self. later and forever peace.

Even Al Giordano is following the secret location mode now. He has been an expat for a long time too -- he says mostly for economic reasons, which are good reasons.
http://narcosphere.narconews.com/thefield/where-should-the-field-go-report-voter-registration-deadline
At that post note that he doesn't live in the US, is very attuned to US politics anyway and he does not refer to his actual primary residence -- he doesn't name the town.
I think I have read the town elsewhere, but now that Al is becoming extremely popular, perhaps he has decided to not mention the location anymore.
There are a great number of us that continue to have some remote hope for the US Constitution being rehabilitated and the corporate/politico complex being cut down to size in Washington.
So we read and write blogs from afar. Quite a few ex-pats write about US politics, but I don't and probably won't. I realized decades ago that I had been out of the country for far too long
and I just didn't understand the place any more.
My sense, confirmed during a visit in 2005, is that the frog in a pot situation was long ago applied to the US public. Slowly, slowly, the citizen frog was heated and now is boiling, but is none the wiser.
I used to say to people, jump before it is too late! Now, I think it is already far too late.

rc - amen to the fact, where ever i go there i am. i also realized as i asked of sacred places, there is the reason they are so, and reason to keep them that way. kind of like a hot fishing spot, maybe? thank you for expanding my mental horizons. when reading your previous post, i appreciated that you had the foresight and especially the initiative to get outta dodge.
my friend thinks cuba is a great idea, and i will check out generacion y to keep updated, thanx. i was daydreaming about snowboarding in argentina last winter (i've snowboarded twice in my living). republica dominicana, south pacific islands, you in puerto rico, to be on the mountainside in cuba...nice. sounds like you have good friends rc, which means you probably are one yourself. nice to be connected to the first hand. remote and ignored sounds wonderful. primitive living is the meek will inherit...it makes sense. that will be the option.
thank you for getting back to me on this. i smile as i wish happy trails to you too.
just as a note, i know i have to change my bad habit of lower case only, makes me hard to read. sorry.

Sweetleaf, the new idea amongst escapees is to not publicize the place escaped to. I'm not sure what I would do if I found the perfect place, but I have plenty of friends actively traveling and looking as we speak. You find a place and it's great, but over time {30 years} things change.
I think that Cuba could turn out to be great for a lot of reasons, but in the interim, there continues to be the Raul problem, so read Generacion Y {blog} to keep up on that. Also the Republica Dominicana is getting better and better
say my contacts there, I will be investigating closely soon. Within various countries there are different places, climates and attitudes, so the town you choose is important.
More than that, who you are and who you decide to become is everything. You can't escape yourself, you'll just find a new address for the problem.
Other friends like Argentina right now. Others are investigating the South Pacific Islands, but they won't reveal details, they don't want company. I live in Vieques, Puerto Rico. Not a perfect place, but remote and ignored enough for my needs right now. It will serve very well as an outpost should the major governments fail as primitive living is very possible here.
But, ultimately, I think within 10 years I will be living on the mountainside above Santiago de Cuba at about the 3000 foot level.
Happy Trails!
