FOLLOWING UP on John McCain’s growing Latino Problem, Kety Esquivel of The Sanctuary is interviewed on CNN. This appearance is a followup to Kety’s last interview, wherein she announced the questionnaire that her and the rest of our group at the Sanctuary prepared and gave to the Presidential candidates.
ANYWHERE THE PEOPLE GATHER to express their voice, their government—be it communist, democratic or otherwise—will be infiltrating and disturbing the cohesion and strength of that voice, ultimately using violence with no hesitancy or remorse. The unsettling juxtaposition of profit, spotlight, and ignored oppressions will always cause this confluence of energy and tumult. This is our modern-day Olympic Games Carnival settling down uneasily into a world where war and class divides are hurting so many.

He’s like…that guy in The Sixth Sense, if you replace Bruce Willis’ charisma with rotten pie crust and then brush half off. John Mccain. He’s so delirious from running on a dying motor that he imagines it’s actually winsome to remind everyone how unpopular he is.
AT A TIME when our communities are under siege with unduly harsh immigration enforcement measures, our young people are dropping out of high school and getting pregnant at higher rates, the schools that predominantly service our children are in a state of decline, healthcare is out of financial reach and racial profiling across the country is at its worst, we deserve more than empty political promises by a campaign that says it wants the Latino vote but doesn’t want to give our issues the time of day.
THERE ARE THOSE TIMES in your early childhood when you have a moment of epiphany or an awareness that rings out loudly and clearly and never stops. Moments that serve as a tuning fork for the rest of your life, sounding out a true C note so you can always get yourself in key when you choose.
