The Sanctuary Questionnaire Countdown (and Updates)

YOU MAY REMEMBER THAT MEMBERS OF THE SANCTUARY compiled a 38 point questionnaire on specific immigration questions and sent them to three presidential candidates with a deadline of the end of this month, June 2008. 

Shortly thereafter, one of our founding editors, Kety Esquivel (also publisher of Crossleft.org) appeared on CNN and talked about it a little. 

The clock is ticking, and while answering the questionnaire doesn’t prove what the candidates actually will do if elected, it forces them to define a stand in various areas.

“Latinas” and “Latinos” are not suckers and we are not dumb and we are not so happy with a little (momentary and cyclical) media attention that we will sell out our causes and self-appointed roles (like the MSM is famous for doing, see Iraq Invasion Occupation etc). No, we mean to take this and run with it and watching blogs that belong to the SanctuarySphere, you will see that this is true.

Consider this an update. As of now, Cynthia McKinney’s press secretary, John Judge (July 16) and the Obama campaign (hoy) have contacted us. Cynthia McKinney’s campaign tells The Sanctuary that they will have the returned questionnaire to us by our deadline, and the Obama campaign promises a return within seven days.

 Hi,

We’d like to fill out this questionnaire, but wanted to know if you could cut it down to the top 10 questions you’d like answered since many of them are repetitive.

We replied that we appreciate the dilemma, but we need the entire questionnaire filled out so we can compare with the other candidates’ responses properly. I’ll keep you updated.
