FIRSTLY, I HAVE TO ADMIT RIGHT UP FRONT that I wonder if this will work at all, this new style of posting. But I’m going to give it a try. Let’s see how you and I feel about it once it’s been in place for a couple weeks. [UPDATE: I didn't have to wait even a day! I won't be implementing this idea! That is explained later. In another post. Somewhere. Try here.]

And by “new style of posting,” I don’t mean at all the blog’s visual or structural style. I am happy with what I’ve put together here.

No, what I mean is that what I’ve decided to try is a weekly release of the “mag.” As the front page and my choice of style currently allows for a maximum of seven posts to be displayed on the index page/cover, I will release seven posts a week, to be posted on Mondays.

Responding to comments would happen on the same timeline as always: whenever I can.

♥ PROS:

-Removing the daily pressure to blog brings many benefits. Lower blood pressure, less morning stress. Less time feeling like the blog is always prowling and starved.

-More time to multiple passes/edits and let topics simmer. For someone who writes posts as I prefer—not so much party or bus stop chat as something a touch more thoughtful or literary—this feels important. Again, depending on what your preferred style of writing out here is, some of the compromises of the pace of blogging are unfortunate. One of them is that it’s often very good for a piece that you walk away from it for a little while before doing a second edit. And the reason I didn’t like to do full posts on RSS is lessened when I can tweak a piece for a week before releasing.

-Easier to integrate with my paid work, as I can hit a weekly “bundle” of posts at odd times, hit it when I have time. I know I can do the same things with drafts now, but knowing nothing needs to be released until a certain day seems more relaxing.

–More options to conceptualize a full week’s “issue.” You can potentially feature a theme for the week or in other ways, tie the issue together.

-As touched on, will undoubtedly lead to more substantial posts on a greater ratio.

(º¬ CONS:

-You are “less” in the daily conversation (party chat!) that can make the blogosphere a lot of fun to all types of bloggers.

-There is an uncertainty as to how much this schedule would serve the same crowd who comes here now. Some people read daily as part of their schedule and habits. What will they do on the second or third day of the week, once they’ve read all your posts? Simply not come around. Why would they? Does that matter? Will they actually read all the posts in one shot? (Probably not, wasting that much time at work would really get your fired.) Or will they actually save posts to read later when they know 9 are available?

-No reacting to sudden events/disasters/crises/rallies for blogassistance.

-I’d have to make a button to explain what it’s a weekly posting rate or else someone might come for as long as six days, think the blog is dead and not come back. And I don’t see that there’s any more room for such a button.

-It’s not really very Web 2.0, eh? More old school print release, but with more flexibility to edit or add up to the last second.

Am I missing anything?

How do you feel? Please, it is to vote. And if you want to comment with longer thoughts, I welcome your doing so.
